PUBLIC NOTICE OF DECISION ON
REQUESTED PLAN CHANGE 9
TO THE CENTRAL OTAGO DISTRICT PLAN
Pursuant to clause 10(4)(b) of the First Schedule to the Resource Management Act 1991 the Central Otago District Council has made
its decision on requested Plan Change 9 to the Central Otago District Plan and on matters raised in submissions thereto. Plan Change 9
has been requested by Foodstuffs (South Island) Limited and relates to provisions of the Central Otago District Plan as detailed below:
Plan Change 9 : Business Resource Area, Alexandra
Plan Change 9 amends Map 4A of the Operative Central Otago District Plan to include 719m2 of land that is adjacent to the Alexandra
New World property in the Business Resource Area. The land is currently in the Residential Resource Area and has frontage to Moa
Street and Kenmare Street, Alexandra; such land being described as Lot 1 DP 23152 and Lot 2 DP 23152.
The provisions of Rule 8.3.6(ix) and Rule 8.3.6(x) that apply to the Business Resource Area are to be amended.
The amendments to Rule 8.3.6(ix) will require that a solid wall constructed of concrete block or similar materials be maintained at
any Moa Street boundary (excluding any vehicle access or egress) and at any contiguous Kenmare Street boundary. The wall is to
be designed by a landscape architect and will incorporate a landscape strip between the wall and the footpath on Moa Street and
between the wall and the verge on Kenmare Street.
Rule 8.3.6(ix) also requires that a wall of similar construction be maintained at any adjacent boundary where such wall will be
contiguous with the wall required at any Moa Street and Kenmare Street boundary and where the neighbouring site is located in the
Residential Resource Area and has frontage to Kenmare Street.
The effect of the amendments to Rule 8.3.6(ix) is to require a continuation of the solid wall that exists at Moa Street adjacent to
the Alexandra New World carpark along the Moa Street and Kenmare Street road boundaries of the additional 719m2 of land to be
included in the Business Resource Area via requested Plan Change 9.
Rule 8.3.6(x) is to be amended to confirm that no traffic is permitted to enter or exit a site from Kenmare Street (between Moa and
Brandon Streets) in Alexandra. The effect of this amendment is to prevent vehicular access being achieved to Kenmare Street from the
719m2 of land to be included in the Business Resource Area. Vehicular access to the additional area to be included in the Business
Resource Area will be achieved utilising the existing entrances at the Centennial Avenue (State highway 8) and Moa Street frontages of
the Alexandra New World property.
The decision on requested Plan Change 9 and on matters raised in submissions thereto can be viewed on the Council's website at

Under clause 29(6) and clause 14 of the First Schedule to the Resource Management Act 1991 the person who made the request and
those who submitted on the plan change may appeal the Council's decision with respect to the plan change to the Environment Court
within 30 working days of notice of the decision being served.

Property owners and users of the Kawarau
River, including for recreation, are advised that
the herbicide diquat will be applied in gel form to
control lake weed (Lagarosiphon) at a number of
sites within 2km below the Kawarau River Bridge
The control period is from Monday 20 August 2012
to Friday 7 September 2012, with the preferred
dates being 23-24 August 2012. Actual date of
control will be dependent on suitable weather and
water conditions. Treatment will not take place
during weekends or on public holidays.
As a precautionary measure only, Land Information
New Zealand advises users not to take water from
the Kawarau River to consume or for irrigation
purposes from the vicinity of the treatment area, until
24 hours after treatment has been completed.
Notices will be placed at www.linz.govt.nz 24 hours
prior to the planned spray dates. Warning signs
will be placed at authorised public boat ramps
during treatment and will be removed 24 hours
A boat will be used to apply the herbicide when
conditions are suitable.
Weed control in the Kawarau River is a joint initiative
between the Otago Regional Council, Queenstown
Lakes District Council and Land Information
