THESE were 3 places I wanted to go to but to be honest I never
thought I would really get around to it untl this trip came up.
By the end of the trip I felt like I would have seriously missed
out on these most amazing destnatons, as they were quite life
I will give you a taste of my tme in Cambodia where we started
our tour in Siam Reap with Peregrine Adventures.
I instantly thought this tour of max 12 people wasnt going to
be like your typical bus tour you see around Europe or even
Queenstown. Our friendly guide picked us up and showed us
to our hotel then we met up at 9am the next morning afer
breakfast to be shown around the amazing temples of Angkor
Wat (which was so much beter than trying to fnd and fgure all
this out when you get there!).
The next day we met again in the morning for a half day at
Angkor Wat then had free tme in the afernoon - which me and
2 others went to a orphanage to give the kids some local gifs
and hang out for the afernoon. We met up with a few of my
new friends for dinner and night markets and a 1hr foot and 1hr
back massage for only $12 USD total!
We had a leisurely next morning (for shopping) then met to be
taken to the airport for a short 1hr fight to the capital Phnom
Penh. Our central hotel was a great standard with a roof top
restaurant and pool. We had the afernoon off to explore then
the next day we met in the morning and were taken to the killing
felds and museum to learn all about Cambodia brutal history
with the Khmer Rouge which followed by a morning tour of the
Royal Palaces and Pagodas. The next day we went to Saigon in
Cambodia was far more amazing than I have ever imagined, the
people were so friendly and happy, the children were adorable.
Our Cambodian guide gave us a real insight into the culture of
the people and their terrible recent history. I feel lucky to have
had this experience.
It is such a great tme to visit as the currency is mostly in the USD
and the exchange rates are so great at the moment everything
is super cheap. It is a different experience to Thailand - cheaper
and less touristy and a great adventure. Some of Peregrine/
Geckos trips also go at a slower pace and out to the beach for a
This was an excellent tour with a good balance of cultural and
historical aspects as well as providing opportunites for shopping
and for leisure experiences such as cycling and boat trips and
free tme to relax. I had a wonderful tme.

LOCAL Specsavers Queenstown optometrist and co-owner,
Aaron Irvine said that summer sun lovers are amongst the most
vulnerable to poor eye health due to environmental conditons.
Everybody knows they should protect their skin from the sun
but people dont seem to realise that the sun can be just as
dangerous for the eyes. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
and to glare refected off water and sand contributes towards
eye conditons such as eye cancer and cataracts, Mr Irvine said.
While people go on summer trips to the beach and spend tme
on the water this summer, I encourage them to think about
the risk of UV damage to their eyes. Sun related conditons can
have quite serious consequences, ranging from vision loss to
blindness or even death so its very important to take the right
Mr Irvine said water actvites exposed people to the greatest
risks partly because of the many refectve surfaces and partly
because they were less likely to wear eye protecton while
A sandy beach for example, generates about 1.2 tmes as much
UV radiaton as you would get from standing in direct sunlight
alone because the sand refects the UV light back onto you and
water refects like a mirror, Mr Irvine said.
People are also much less likely to wear their sunglasses when
theyre actually in the water, so this means they can go for quite
long periods of tme without protectng their eyes.
People who wear glasses are also at greater risk of exposure
to UV radiaton because of the inconvenience of trying to wear
sunglasses when theyre already wearing glasses.
This is why it is essental for glasses wearers to invest in
prescripton sunglasses, transitons lenses or lenses with a UV
tnt, or to wear contact lenses when theyre involved in outdoor
actvites so they can wear sunglasses.

I was lucky to be accepted onto a trip of a lifetme travelling with Peregrine
