It is not the easiest restaurant to find in
Wanaka, but worth the effort.
We would order anything on the menu
confident of being delivered perfection

A delightful and relaxed atmosphere in
a slice of Arrowtown history.
Our lunch was good, standard fare and
good value for money.
The Flight Park Cafe,
A little bit of Europe in the Wakatipu

landing hang-gliders and paragliders if
the weather is right. Excellent facilities

The menu, which has a strong focus on
the use of Central Otago produce, offered
a range of tempting options making it
difficult to select a meal. My friend and I
ordered a starter and two mains to share.
Both fans of haloumi, we couldn t go past
the Grilled Haloumi with a tapenade of
kalamata olives, caramelised red onion
and sundried tomatoes with marinated
capsicum ($14) and we were pleased we
didn t -- it was divine.
Our main choices of lamb backstrap with
gruyere cheese, baby spinach, pan
roasted medium rare with braised fennel,
Israeli couscous salad, olive and sundried
tomato tapenade ($29) and seared and
baked chicken breast fillet stuffed with
cow s brie and basil pesto served with a
green bean salad with balsamic dressing
and rosemary sauteed potatoes ($26)
were well presented and generously sized
portions. Both meals were delicious and
offered good value for money.
The varied a-la-carte menu is
complemented by a four course set chef s
table menu ($75pp or $110 with wine
matched). Despite being completely
satisfied by our first two courses, we
couldn t say no to the dessert menu
which read so well it was, again, difficult
to choose. We settled for the Alivate
Tiramisu Affogato ($15) which was a well
presented and delicious caffeine hit.
Served in a cocktail glass, the chocolate
sponge with dark chocolate liquor
ganache, berry compote, whipped cream
and vanilla icecream was accompanied by
an espresso shot -- and it was every bit as
good as it sounds. We also ordered
Annabel s Brownie ($15) which was
served warm with yoghurt sorbet and a
shot of homemade Limoncello -- it s not
everyday you get homemade Limoncello.
The service we received while dining at
Alivate was top notch. Having arrived at
9pm on a Tuesday night, during what is
traditionally referred to as a shoulder
season in the Queenstown Lakes District,
staff were welcoming and more than
happy to accommodate us, and if they
weren t we certainly didn t realise it. Staff
were all friendly, willing to make
suggestions and were prompt taking
orders and delivering drinks.
With uninterrupted views out over the
crystal clear waters of Lake Wanaka s
Roys Bay and surrounds, it s hard to go
past Alivate s outdoor dining area as the
perfect place to watch the sun go down.
The restaurant offers a range of indoor
and outdoor seating in a relaxed setting

With a range of indoor and outdoor
tables, Alivate is suitable for intimate
dates, large group dinners and everything
in between. Children are welcome and
well catered for with a dedicated
children s menu. Alivate also opens for
lunch and offers Christmas lunch and
New Year s Eve dinner options.
With a mouth-watering menu, spectacular
views and efficient and friendly staff,
Alivate offers diners an affordable fine
dining experience. Given the difficulty we
had in selecting our meals, we had
decided on another dinner date there
before our meals had even been delivered
to the table. Alivate definitely impressed
and we will be back.
